Noted Haitian artist Emmanuel Dostaly lives and works in New York City. His career spans over thirty-five years, during which he has produced hundreds of paintings and numerous drawings and sculptures. Dostaly works primarily within the idiom of traditional Haitian art, but he challenges the boundaries of that idiom through reference both to personal experience and the rich traditions of Europe. Dostaly’s work has been exhibited on three continents and he has been featured in a wide variety of publications, including The New York Times and the recent book Haitian Artists in America (H&H Printing, 1998).
