In a past interview, Dostaly described his experience in Haiti and his departure for the United States: “During the seventies, art as an industry in Haiti was booming. This was all exchanged later on for a different kind of power, that of politics. This switch no longer allowed for a flourishing art industry, causing artists such as myself to seek their livelihood abroad. The positive side of this departure is that we now have the opportunity to reach a much broader, international audience. I have been energized by this new possibility, and as I continue to produce new work, I see my role as that of a trailblazer, clearing the path for generations to come.”
